about

This progressive instrumental album includes the epic third installment of "Apophis".

A collaborative entity since their first album - 2011’s “Direct Current”, DC Sound Collective is a coalition of musicians in USA and UK who compose and/or contribute to musical works in a variety of styles (progressive, ambient, pop, etc) without genre restrictions. Started as a vehicle for trans-Atlantic collaborations with Jade Warrior’s Glyn Havard, David Duhig and Colin Henson, with occasional performances in the Portland, Oregon area – the first album “Direct Current” featured theremin, world rhythms and electronics in a multi-faceted aural stew. By 2013 Glyn Havard retired from music, but David Duhig and Colin Henson remain involved, and a rotating cast of musicians continue to journey onward..

*99942 Apophis (/əˈpɒfɪs/, previously known by its provisional designation 2004 MN4) is a near-Earth asteroid that caused a brief period of concern in December 2004 because initial observations indicated a probability of up to 2.7% that it would hit Earth on April 13, 2029. Additional observations provided improved predictions that eliminated the possibility of an impact on Earth or the Moon in 2029. However, until 2006, a possibility remained that during the 2029 close encounter with Earth, Apophis would pass through a gravitational keyhole, a small region no more than about a half mile wide,[8][9] that would set up a future impact exactly seven years later, on April 13, 2036. This possibility kept it at Level 1 on the Torino impact hazard scale until August 2006, when the probability that Apophis would pass through the keyhole was determined to be very small. By 2008, the keyhole had been determined to be less than 1 km wide. – Wikipedia

"It's a very moody and atmospheric work sometimes heading into a kind of dark ambience that many will find pleasant for late night listening. The first track "K-219" begins with shimmering keys and Crommie's flute adding a touch of folk. The bass is very prevalent and there is some nice acoustic/electric guitar as well. "Tradewind" follows with an intro of animal noises and keys having a retro Floyd feel before the ambient soundscape takes on darker tones. More nice guitar and Eastern themed flute rounds out the track. Atmosphere and mood are again exemplified in the guitar work on the mellow "Umbriel". When present the drum beat adds a certain world music vibe. The disc ends with "Apophis 3" clocking in at a whopping thirty-six minutes. Flowing guitar solos amidst a sublime electronic back drop makes this one a noteworthy epic. You will also hear nice acoustic guitar and flute melodies in the more tranquil moments as well as more ominous tones in the darker mood laden ambient sections. Crommie again proves to be a talented artist and has made another fine album to add to his massive discography." - Sea of Tranquility
